Define and fully discuss the following brainstorming techniques, the Delphi Technique, Brainstorming, and Nominal Group Technique.
Read and respond to at least two (2) of your classmates’ posts. In your response to your classmates, consider comparing your articles to those of your classmates. Below are additional suggestions on how to respond to your classmates’ discussions:
· Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, evidence or research.
· Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.
· Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own research.
· Validate an idea with your own experience and additional research.
· Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings.
· Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.
Replie to first topic:-
Brainstorming is the process by which an individual goes through to come up with ideas. It involves different creative techniques initiating efforts to find a solution to a given problem. The answer is found by gathering ideas contributed freely by the members or an individual. The method is a useful way of thinking and coming up with ideas in a group or as an individual to solve a specific problem
Delphi technique: the method mainly aims at trying to predict the future outcome of a given situation. The technique is used sometimes in a project to predict the likelihood of risks and opportunity (Neiger, Barnes, Thackeray & Lindman, 2001). Ideas are collected and then analyzed and compared to find a trend of happening to predict what will happen next in the future (Neiger, Barnes, Thackeray & Lindman, 2001). Such a method was sometimes back used to arrest criminals and to maintain law and order by anticipating where a crime was most likely to take place.
Brainstorming: a random question can be asked in a group, and then those willing will give their ideas and what they think is the correct answer. The members are allowed to think and come up with ideas that help in solving specific problems (Goldenberg, & Wiley 2011, P.98). One creates a mind map with several views and tries to pick the best that can be effective. One can absorb and analyze a situation before coming up with a solution or suggestive idea.
Nominal group technique: individuals are allowed to come up with their ideas instead of the group. The ideas are presented, analyzed and ranked accordingly (Hickey, & Chambers 2014, P.25). The group then agrees on the essential idea they are going to use. These indicate the creativity of an individual and the capability of a group to make a decision (Hickey, & Chambers 2014, P.25). Everyone can share his or her ideas even if it is irrelevant and then the whole group evaluates the ideas as one to come up with a single conclusion.
Whenever we have to solve a problem as a group or to come up with ideas for something, we have to discuss as a group in some way and put together everyone’s ideas to come to a conclusion. There are different ways we can do this depending on the type of people constituting the group.
Delphi Technique- This technique is used when the group consists of experts who want to reach a conclusion without compromising anyone’s opinion. They are able to put their ideas independently and still come to a common conclusion that everyone agrees on. After the ideas are presented, a facilitator reviews them and submits a report and then the group members discuss further and modify their ideas. This process is repeated until they reach a satisfactory conclusion. The anonymity of the ideas makes it easier for the people to present their own ideas without being judged.
Brainstorming Technique- This technique used to bring out the creativity in people. People from different backgrounds render diversity in the ideas and it also has the quality of getting opinion from points of view of all kinds of people. People can be spontaneous with their ideas without being judged. At the end of the brainstorming session, all the ideas are accumulated and properly evaluated and discussed as to the relevance of the ideas. Lack of criticism during the brainstorming session helps the people in being brave with their ideas.
Nominal group technique- This technique is similar to the brainstorming technique, but it’s more structured. This technique is a little bit mechanical, but is more appealing to the people who are passive and reserved. They are able to put forward their ideas without being conscious of people judging them based on their ideas. Each person spends some time silently thinking about the ideas and putting them down and then all the ideas are collected. Once all the ideas have been put together, the decision is made based on voting.
